What Holi means

Holi is kept on the full moon of Phalguna. On its eve the bonfire of Holika Dahan remembers how the child Prahlad, devoted to the Lord, was protected from the fire while the demoness Holika burned: devotion is safe in the fire that consumes pride. The next day friends and strangers share Gulal (Coloured Powder of Holi) and Kesar (Saffron) colours, and old quarrels are forgiven.

The saints sing of a colour that never fades: the colour of the Divine Name that the Guru gives. Outer colours wash away by evening; the bhakti (Devotional Song) colour of the soul deepens with every hour of Sadhna (Daily Meditation Practice).
